Upgrade Installation CD

Every CD Master produced by ADS-Limathon is tested on different versions of Windows with different versions of MS Office and in different languages.  Each CD produced is individually test installed before shipping to ensure ease of installation. No two installation environments are the same and technical expertise on PC, Windows Operating System, or Network issues will exist in the local IT department. Unless the CD is physically damaged or scratched, it is very unlikely that the CD will be the cause of installation failures.

CD does not autostart 

If there are two CDs on the PC then try the other one. If there is only one then reboot the PC and retry. Alternatively  use Windows Explorer to locate the CD and double-click the Setup.exe or Setup (application) file.

When do I use Full Installation and when do I use Upgrade

Full Installation - You must only use this if it is a either a first time installation or if the user has not collected any patient or assessment data. 

Re-Installation - If there is a previous installation, and the user wants to erase the data collected then you should first uninstall BLIPS 4 Aspreva (using Start - All Programs - Control Panel - Add or Remove Programs). After un-installation you can run Full Installation. 

Upgrade - If the user has existing patient or assessment data which the wish to keep and run with the new version, then use the Upgrade. During the upgrade you will be asked the question of 'Do you wish to keep the existing BLIPS400.mde file'. It's human nature to not allow files to be deleted, but the instinctive answer - YES - is wrong !  However if you manually delete the file C:\Program Files\Blips 4 Aspreva\BLIPS400.mde, using Window Explorer, this YES/NO decision is avoided.  Deleting this file before upgrading, ensures that the new file version will always e installed.

Do I need to Register my Upgrade

A successful installation will require the completion of a Registration Screen. Please note that if you are not asked to register, then the upgrade has not been successful. Registration is compulsory. Aspreva (for regulatory requirements) and ADS-Limathon ( for ISO9001 and support requirements) need to know which version of a program is in use at any particular site.

After Upgrading the expected new functionality is not available

The new functionality in Blips 4.05  for example - ability to change assessment dates, ability to change Visit Number, abilty to edit initial BILAG History - does not seem to work. This would indicate that the upgrade has not been successful. This can be confirmed by checking the Version number on the Main Menu Screen. If it reports 4.04. xx then the upgrade was not successful. Please refer to the section on  reinstalling the Upgrade below.

My shortcut (start menu icon) says version 4.05, but the program version is 4.04

The program shortcut (Start - All Programs - BLIPS 4 ALMS) shows version 4.05, but when I open BLIPS the version number at the bottom of the Main Menu Screen says Version 4.04.03 ( or earlier). This would indicate that the upgrade has not been successful. The program file name for both versions is BLIPS400.mde and so the new shortcut and the old shortcut will start either version. The Version number on the Main Menu Screen is the version you are currently running. If it reports 4.04 or earlier then the upgrade was not successful. Please refer to the section on  reinstalling the Upgrade below.

Why was my upgrade installation not successful ?

The most likely cause for this is that during installation you elected not to overwrite, (i.e. keep) the existing file BLIPS400.mde. The question can be confusing, you are actually asked if you want to KEEP the existing file , so the answer is NO. If you elect YES to keep the original file, all the 4.05 shortcuts will be installed but the new application file is not installed. 

Is there a way to make sure I install the new version ?

Either 

(a) delete the file C:\Program Files\BLIPS 4 Aspreva\BLIPS400.mde before installing the upgrade, then this will ensure that the new version is installed - or -

(b) during installation when asked if you want to keep the existing file BLIPS400.mde, answer NO.

How can I be certain I have successfully upgraded ?

Firstly you will be asked to register the new version. The version number is printed on the Registration form or email form.

Secondly on opening the Main Menu, the version number is displayed at the bottom right of the screen.

Lastly, the new functionality in 4.05 will be available when using BLIPS
